From our Family to yours
We Welcome you.

Rooted in heritage, guided by heart.
Otjimbondona is more than a lodge — it's a family legacy woven into the red sands of the Kalahari. Born from a dream and built with purpose, every stone and story here reflects a deep love for nature, quiet luxury, and meaningful connection. What sets us apart is not just where we are, but how we welcome you — with sincerity, soul, and the kind of peace you carry home with you.

A Family Legacy
The farm Otjimbondona was purchased in 1922 by Ida and Steve Slaney, originally established as a sheep and cattle farm. Three generations later, after Wilfried’s parents, Hermann and Helga, retired from farming, Wilfried and Anita took over in 2008 — continuing the Slaney family legacy while adding a new chapter: tourism.
The original farmhouse, built in 1923 by a renowned Italian mason, began as just two rooms constructed from locally sourced stone (“klip”). One of those rooms, now our Curio Shop, holds a special memory — it’s where Wilfried’s father was born in 1928. Though the house was expanded in later years, it was eventually left unoccupied and deteriorated beyond repair, leaving only the two original rooms that could be preserved.
Wilfried and Anita have been in the tourism industry since 1991, offering fly-in safaris across Namibia and neighboring countries. For years, they dreamed of building their own lodge — a place that could reflect their deep love for the land and their passion for sharing it. In October 2012, that dream began taking shape. With plans drawn by their son-in-law Thorsten, and the support of local builder Leon Dixon and his team, construction began. Two years later, in October 2014, Otjimbondona Kalahari Lodge was complete.
Today, the Slaney family welcomes guests from all over the world to experience the peace, warmth, and quiet magic that defines Otjimbondona.
